I first became friends with Jared Carr at Upper Columbia Academy. I met him again later while he was attending Walla Walla University.
While I was in Walla Walla, Jared decided to be my roommate. He was well kept and an easy argument for the best roommate one could ask for. He was always patient. I think I only ever saw him upset once and even then he got over it quickly. He was incredibly smart, always pushing himself to be better at something and most definitely someone to be inspired by.
One day he told me of his plans to propose to Kelley Gillette in the blue mountains nearby within the next several days. I felt happy for him and wished him good luck. Later that evening, I walked into the house to find the both of them grinning and possibly shedding a few tears of happiness. Jared said he had just proposed and she had said yes. Now I knew he had intended to ask her in the mountains but clearly he was very passionate for Kelley and couldn’t wait. I’ve remembered that moment from time to time and when I do it makes me smile because it shows, more than anything, how much he cared for her. If there is a moment in time for me to remember him as, it would be this.
I didn’t realize that Jared planned to propose in the Blue Mountains. I love that he planned to do that, but couldn’t wait so proposed over Prob & Stats homework instead. I hold that memory close, and it will be even more special with this story. Thank you!
